Accelerated Reader

We are linked to the Huntertown Elementary Media Center Website here.

The PTO has also organized the Accelerated Reader Program information in a couple of different formats below.

  • Listing Alphabetically by Reading Level

  • Listing Alphabetically by Title

The Accelerated Reader is the most widely used reading software in schools. It is a computerized learning information system that manages literature-based reading practice. It is a program that makes the students want to read -- read harder and read better books. Non-readers become readers and good readers become great readers.

The Huntertown Elementary School AR program began in 1996 and has grown to a current listing of 2004 titles, of which our library can boast a 75% hit rate. We continue to grow, supported by PTO funds, Book fair funds, federal dollars and periodically, with local corporation funding.

Testing and practicing aside, the joy of reading remains the single and most important reward of this program.

The Six Keys to Your Child's Reading Success:
  1. Make reading together enjoyable.

  2. Consider the reader's interests, experiences, and reading level.

  3. Introduce the book in a relaxed conversation.

  4. Encourage the reader with specific praise.

  5. Help the reader maintain the meaning of the story.

  6. Read together on a consistent basis.
